Dodge Repair: 1998 Dodge durango A/C clutch, clutch system, clutch plates

Question
QUESTION: Is it possible to replace this clutch without removing the compressor? The clutch does not cycle properly but if "tapped" lightly it will engage and the compressor works fine and produces very cold air.

ANSWER: i doubt u can get the puller in there far enough inorder to get it pulled off   so no  the compressor will need to at least be out of the way.

QUESTION: Does the fact that the clutch is "sticking" mean anything? Does that imply an electrical short or a mechanical bind in then clutch system?

ANSWER: its not sticking  it  just has lost the ability of holding the clutch plates together in order to move the compressor inside the housing. Just clutch material worn down over time like brake pads.

QUESTION: I'm sorry I didn't make the situation clear. When the clutch gets a signal to engage, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. If you lightly "tap" the clutch hub when it's not engaging it will engage and everything works fine. So my last question still is appropriate.(Does the fact that the clutch is "sticking" mean anything? Does that imply an electrical short or a mechanical bind in then clutch system?)

Answer
both  U made it clear  and I told u how it works with that I said  the clutch does not stick   if it sticks  then it would always be on and never turn off then u would get high pressure in the system and blow out the freon in there at 450psi.
The electrical part will energize a coil and create an electrical magnetic field which will hold the outside part of the clutch to the pressure plate on the compressor to make it turn.  Basically  replace the compressor  or clutch  how ever u want to do it.
