Dodge Repair: Burned computer, dodge caravan, software issue

Question
I own a Dodge Caravan 2003, one morning my car won't start, I took it to a shop, and they said that the starter don't work,  after a couple of days, (yes 3 days!!) they said that since they disconnect the battery the computer deprogram it self son with out permission they took the van to Dodge Dealership to get it reprogrammed, at the dealership they told me that the computer was burned!!, so I asked why and the technician said that provably they didn't disconnect the battery and that is why the computer burned.
So my question to you is, can you tell me if this is possible, they change the starter and also they don't want to get any responsibility for the computer, they don't want a pay for it. Is there any way that you can send me an explanation, of how a computer can burn and the different possibilities that this can happened?

Thanks
Antonio

Answer
no i cant tell u why a computer would burn up   there could be many issues in relation to why it would. There is no way for a computer to deprogram itself  the software is burned onto a ROM and can be erased and a new one programed over it  but not ever have a no software issue.
