Dodge Repair: oil light turns on, off, oil sending unit, oil light

Question
it started happening about a year ago. especially on cold days, my oil light will come on as i slow to a stop. but once i rev the engine a little bit, the oil light turns off. very rarely does the light come on while the car is in motion (only once when i took a turn fast). it mainly happens when i have just gotten off the interstate, and approach a stoplight, then it continues to happen until i turn off the car. also, note that this doesn't happen later in the day, only in the morning when it cold and the car has been sitting all night. This really hasn't had any adverse effect on my car that i can tell as of yet. and no one at the shop i go to has noticed anything wrong (but i haven't told them about the oil light cause it is never acting up about the time i take it in). if you know what this is, i'de be more the greatfull to find out.

Answer
Hi,
It is probably your oil sending unit.  Has the car had the oil changed at the regular intervals?  Sometime this will cause a slight clog in the oil circuit going to the sending unit.  At the least I would have the oil pressure checked at the sending unit.  And if nessaccary have the sending unit replaced.  Some cars come equiped with an automatic shut off if the sending unit reads the oil pressure is to low.
