Dodge Repair: Front End Shimmy, inner tie rod, tire balancer

Question
Doug,

The shimmy in my 2002 Intrepid is most pronounced at higher speeds (highway driving). It is NO more pronounced while breaking and I can feel it while accelerating and cruising. It also occurs in any gear and does not coincide with the shifting of the transmission.

Answer
Check the inner tie-rod end bushings for wear as well as the outer tie rod ends as well.  These are fairly common wear items on most of the high-line vehicles such as intrepid, LHS and concordes.

Every now and again you may find the tires to have broken belts or wheels to be bent as well causing a shimmy that comes and goes at different speeds.  Inspection of these can easily be done on a tire balancer or by spinning the tires off with the vehicle suspended from a lift/jack.
