Dodge Repair: 96 Ram oil pressure, oil pump, oil pan

Question
96 ram 1500 5.9L v8  Oil pressure is dropping for the normal 40 to 20 and sometimes lower. The first time I noticed was straight and level on the highway at about 70MPH. The pressure was down to 4 or 5. Oil was only 1/2 a quart low and 3000 miles since changed. I toped it off and drove home and saw some 40 to 35 and back jumps on the highway during speeding up and slowing down and noticed drops from 40 to 20 and back to 40 when going around tight cornors, like the oil was sloshing away from the oil pump.  Any idea what may cause this?  How hard a job is replacing the oil pump? I am a fair mechanic, I recently replaced a clutch in a 81 chevette, but I dont like messing with newer engines and all the electronics.  If it was just a case of dropping the oil pan and replacing the oil pump I might give it a try, if the job involved removing motor mounts and jacking the engine around I think I would be better off letting a repair shop do it.   Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hello Brad
the oil sender you should try that first could be going bad
as far as the oil pan you do have to take the bolts out of the moutor mounts and jack the eng up or if you have a chain hoist to pick the motor up it only as to come up 3to 4 inches . ti remove the oil pan in a shop  it is around 350 to replace the oil pump . please rate my serivice pete
