Dodge Repair: Dodge 1999 Grand Caravan, dodge grand caravan, crank sensor

Question
I own a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan and have been experiencing a recurring problem.  The problem is that whenever I drive it on long trips or up a hill, the van jerks and loses power, but does not die on me.  The jerking occurs sporadically whenever I step on the gas.  I was told it was a bad spark plug that had not been replaced so I did an all round tune up replacing all spark plugs and wires.  This didn't help.  Can you please advise me on the possible cause of this jerking.  Again it only happens on long driving trips and going uphill, the van jerks and loses power, seems like the transmission slips or something.  Can you please help.

Thanks
Raul

Answer
Raul,

The problem sounds like it could be a cam sensor or a crank sensor. Both would give you that problem and both would be subject to heating up as you drive , the longer you drive the hoter they get and being a computer sensor sometimes the break down under hot conditions
The only sure way to tell is have a tech put a computer on the van and watch them work as you drive.

Most times fuel pumps and fuel problems will cause the van to stall out and will leave you sitting on the side of the road.

Good luck,

Steve
