Dodge Repair: dodge caravan tranny, dodge caravan, stop signs

after a little in town driving at lower speeds and stopping at stop signs my van will lock the tranny into low gear  if i shut it off and turn back on van it releases and drives normal  is it the tranny going bad or is it the sensors or just change filter and fluids  ive had different oppions nad do not want to spend a lot of money  thank you for your help.  1990 dodge caravan  front wheel drive

The trans computer is picking up a problem. the way it works is that the trans computer defaults to 2nd gear. The problem  may be just the input or output sensors but it could be a major problem.
You need to put it on a computor to read the codes. this will point you in the right area to get it repaired or find out if the trans is any good.
