Eagle Repair: Eagle Premier Radio, premium sound system, graphic eq

Question
Hi,

First let me say thanks for responding to my last question about my electronic monitor not working.  For whatever reason, it started working again all by itself after about three days or so.  I guess it was just wet somewhere and had a chance to dry out!

Now on to my question about my radio.  I bought this car (89 eagle premier) used a few months back and was told that the radio didn't work.  Well, it didn't.  But today, I had a few minutes and took the dash cover off and removed the radio to find that the wiring harness was not plugged into the back of it.  Nor was the antenna or the ground wire.  I plugged them both into the back of the radio and it seems to work fine (besides the fact that the previous owner has removed the back speakers, they must have been nice).  Anyway, the radio itself is an am/fm with a built-in graphic eq underneath it.  On the back of the radio, there is a place to plug in a wiring harness and a ground wire on both the top half (radio) and the bottom half (graphic eq), but I only see one wiring harness in the radio compartment.  What gives?  If I plug the wiring harness into the bottom half of the unit (graphic eq), nothing happens.  But plugging it into the top half makes the radio work, but seems to get no power at all to the graphic eq.  Is there another wiring harness that is missing?  Is there some sort of adapter that carries the signal from one into the other?  I thought that maybe this car didn't come with this unit originally, but it is the es model which does list the premium sound system as a feature, so I would imagine that this is indeed the system that came with the car (it says JEEP right on the front of it).

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks
Beau

Answer
Hi Beau

Sorry about the late reply, I have been trying to find a wiring diagram for this radio configaration. I have unfortunately not been able to find one. I will however take my best shot at trying to answer your question. The harness in the vehicle is for output and supplies the speaker, so this would have to be connected to the equalizer side which provides the final output signal. The equalizer should have a second port on the rear for another harnes this would be the input signal port from the stereo source, you will need to get hold of a jumper hareness which fits between the stereo and the equalizer. So to recap signal out the stereo to the equalizer and then signal out the equalizer to the vehicle. This is my best assumption on the configaration. Hope this helps.

Thanks Wayne.
