Ford Repair: fuel problems 86 ford, ford f150 xlt, fuel pump relay

Question
QUESTION: My family has had a 86 ford in the family since 88 and its drove good until about 2003 then it went not so good. Then i took it to my home and its set since. though my son is fixing it he is getting the motor rebuilt and the transmission. though when it stoped running it was a fuel problem. We have tried to figure out what was wrong but no luck. Now the truck didnt get gas to the motor when it stoped running. the fuel pumps are being replaced.

How many fuel pumps does a 86 ford have?
Can you give me some pointers on all the things the fuel system goes and what the things that make it run like parts that go in the fuel system?
The problem is the fuel system what do you think the problem is?

ANSWER: i need to know what kind of 86 ford it is ??

QUESTION: It is a ford f150 xlt lariat

Answer
this vehicle could have dual tanks with two pumps. if that were the case though, you would have a switch on the dash to change tanks. outside of a magor wiring concern the only real possibilities are, the pump/pumps are bad or one of the two relays under the hood.. the fuel pump relay or the pcm relay which turns the fuel pump relay on
