Audio Systems: Aiwa Receiver power, specmo, receiver power

Question
My Aiwa Receiver only works the next day if I disconnect the power -unplug - the day before - -and doesn't always work the "next day". -- If I shut the unit off with the power button on the unit - -it will not work the following day.
I think I need to take it to a repair shop[. Can you advise me on one in my area?  - - Charlotte, NC
What do you think a repair like this would cost? My unit is old.

Answer
For older receivers it is common for this problem to be caused by a shorted or gassy electrolytic inside the power supply.  Cost is not much.  Should be easy to repair by a good audio tech.

I just googled for "audio repair shop in charlotte, NC" and got several listings quickly.  Try Freeman or Specmo why don't you.  Even the Geek Squad at Bestbuy should be able to handle this one for you.

Keep in mind an old receiver is often not worthy of a repair due to its very low value being so old.  When you can buy a nice receiver for $100 and up it is not wise to spend that much on repairing an old one - -- unless there is great sentimental value to the old one.
