Ford Repair: 2005 Ford Ranger, spark plug wires, valve cover gasket

QUESTION: 2005 Ford Ranger with 2.3L engine shows misfire code. replaced coil pack, uphill will start to buck and sputter. it does soso on level ground except when trying to accelerate. 5 speed manual transmission. no power at all on hill , have to go back to 2nd gear. any help would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: how many miles on the vehicle ? need to know if you replaced the plugs or removed the spark plug wires to see if there was oil or water in the tubes

QUESTION: There is 106,000 miles on truck. replaced spark plugs, old ones seemed normal. there was some oil in #4 tube.

ANSWER: if there is oil in the cylinder holes. then the tube seals that are part of the valve cover gasket set  will need to be replaced soon. blow out the oil with compressed air, replace the wires and retest. be sure to install motorcraft spark plugs

QUESTION: but would this cause the misfire condition , codes 302 and 303.

Answer
the oil in the tube contaminates the plug wire and gives the spark less resistance to ground. if motorcraft plugs are not installed, the heat and resistance range between aftermarket and factory equiptment also changes facores and hence, you have a miss fire
