Ford Repair: explorer speedometer not working..., vehicle speed sensor, torque converter

Question
Hi my name is Matthew, i have a question and was wondering if you can help my out i have a 2000 explorer xls 4x4 sohc. i purchase the vehicle and notice it wasnt working so i thought it would be a simple fix. I changed the sensor in the rear differential, nothing, had a hub bearing go bad and got an other one with abs sensor. still nothing mind you abs light is on, dont no if that has to do with. took it to a trans shop, they said output speed sendor changed that nothing. then my buddy got one of them expensive computers that tells you everything it said vehicle speed sensor faulty. and then another code said something it was intermitent, so i was wondering if you heard this before or any idea what it might be... thanks really appreciate it driving me crazy and doesnt seem like overdrive is working right and torque converter and everything making it drive messed up.

Answer
have seen this many times, either of two problems. install a meter on dc setting . connect leads to connector at speed sensor rear. should read 12.0 volts with key on. if this is o.k. remove speed sensor applied grease around sensor and reinstall but be sure it is fully seated in the case. this happens many times that it is not seated.
