Ford Repair: 2000 Ford Taurus - No heat, ford taurus, heater core

Question
Hi Brian,

When I drove my car 2 days ago the heat was working, but this morning even after the car warmed up there was no heat, just cold air.  I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with 291,000 miles on it.  Do you have any ideas on what the issue may be?  Could it be the thermostat?  I'd like to avoid having to take it to the repair shop if the repair is easy enough for me to do, and not too expensive.

Thank you,
Kevin

Answer
couple questions, does the temperature reading on the dash read normal and is the coolant bottle full ??? if so, then your heater core is plugged. very common concern for the mileage. 2 ways to approach it, either have the heater core replaced which requires removing the dash or you can have it flushed out which depending on how bad it is plugged may only be a temporary repair.
