Ford Repair: Burning oil smell, valve cover gasket, burning oil

Hello Brian.  I have a 2000 Focus ZTS, 89,000 miles.  Sometimes when I exit the expressway and come to a stop, I smell burning oil.  I have replaced the valve cover gasket.  It does not happen every time.  This has been happening occasionally for the last few months and at least 2 oil changes.

do you do the oil changes your self ??? if not.check to be sure the oil is cleaned from the back of the engine after the filter was removed. only other thing i can think of is to lift the front end  and visually inspect for any leaks.. get back to me... -b-
