Ford Repair: Horn/crusie control, crusie control, personal mechanic

Question
1994 ford if-150 xlt and horn started working intermittently for awhile and then stopped altogether / cruise around the same time. The horn works when I use the remote alarm ! so it has to be in the steering column ? can you describe what I need to do at home with my personal mechanic to fix this ? also the airbag light has been blinking for years ( don't care ) so it should not be a problem because of that right ? Thanks for your input. I am assuming that I need to remove the 4 bolts that face towards the dash on the back of the steering wheel and then pull it off and go from there! But ??

Answer
first and foremost before removing the steering wheel, be sure the battery has been disconnect for atleast 45 minutes to depower the air bag system, i cannot express this enough, second. if your horn is inop and cruise inop with the air bag light on the problem is most likely the clock spring located behind the steering wheel. if you are going to replace the clock spring your self. remove those 4 bolts. remove the air bag. there will be a nut or possibly a #45 or 50 torx bit holding the steering wheel in place. one this bolt is removed. two hands on the wheel, give it a couple good up and down and side two side shakes while pulling with a little force, the wheel should come off. the clock spring is directly behind it held in place with a couple screws. good luck
