Ford Repair: Ford f150 low compression, blown head gasket, cylinder compression

Question
My 97 ford f150 4.6l died on a road trip.  We thought it might be fuel. the truck started running rough and started to lose power on the uphill climbs then all of a sudden it died.  We had it towed and a diagnostic run. the mechanic told me it was low compression in cylinders 6 and 8 at first I thought these cylinders were adjacent so I thought it might be a blown head gasket but after doing some research I found that these two cylinders aren't next to each other do you think it could still be a head gasket and if not what else could it be.

Thanks.

Kyle

Answer
Kyle, the low compression is typical because of the age of the truck.  Aside from looking into complete engine rebuild.  I would suggest that you start with the basic, change air filter, plugs, wires and a complete tune-up.  Then, see what happens, if the problem still exist.  Look into some additive that might help with cylinder compression.  If that does not work, the problem exist, then look into engine rebuild/cylinder heads work....  Thanks!
