Ford Repair: Squeal from Back Wheel - 2008 CX-7, worn brakes, awd vehicles

Question
I own a 2008 Mazda CX-7. The back right wheel started squealing a few weeks ago. The interesting thing is that it is very intermittent and only occurs after accelerating. The squeal stops the moment I apply the brakes, even though the car is still moving. The car now has 48,000 miles and has the original brakes.

Can worn brakes or calipers cause this problem? If so, why only on acceleration and not when braking?

Finally, I do have experience changing pads and rotors on disc brakes. I understand there is a sensor on AWD vehicles. Do I need to do anything differently because of the sensor?

Thanks in advance.....Mike.

Answer
Mike, I would recommmend changing the pads.  Most likely the squeal is coming from the pads wear sensor (steel tap).  Some pads comes with steel tap that is on the side of the pad and once the pads wear out to a replacable level, the steel tap start touching the rotors which causes squealing noice.  As for the when it happens, it vary based on the tap and the pads are wearing out....  As for the sensor, I don't think you need to do much as it is not part of the brakes change system.  Consult the autozone.com repair sections for more detail info.  Thanks!
