Ford Repair: Fuel gauge, white stripe, problem thanks

Question
I just bought a '92 Bronco and the fuel gauge doesn't work.  I am planning on dropping the tank to check the sending unit.  I have never done this before and could use some advice/guidance on the process.  Any tricks on dropping the tank?  How do I determine which component is causing the problem?

Thanks

Answer
This fuel gauge is easy to test. With the tank removed and sender disconnected, simply ground the sender wire with the key on, see if the gauge moves. When you remove the ground, the gauge should move the opposite direction. This circuit is a yellow wire with a white stripe. If the gauge moves both directions, the sender is bad. If the gauge does not move, the gauge is faulty or there is a wiring issue. You can also check the resistance of the sender with an ohmmeter or multi meter. Make sure the sender float is not stuck or too heavy causing it to read empty all the time.

Removing the tank, is easiest with less fuel in it.
