Ford Repair: fuel system, explorer xlt, pressure test

Question
changed fuel filter on 97 for explorer xlt v8 when it stopped running after running it low on gas (not empty). still doesn't run. do i need to prime the system? and how? or is it the fuel pump?

Answer
Hello Gregg, Is possible the fuel pump failed when it ran low on fuel, the pump uses the fuel to help keep it cool. You can have a manual fuel pressure test performed to see if it is low. Anything below 35 psi is an indication of a weak pump. Hope this helps Thanks Tony
