Toyota Repair: carberator, fuel spray, toyota pickup

Question
my 1985 toyota pickup will not start unless i 1st pour gas in the carbuetor but runs fine after that

Answer
There are two things that can cause this to happen, the choke doesn't close when the engine is cold, make sure the choke plate closes on a cold start, remove the top of the air cleaner, step on the acc pedal all the way down once, the choke plate should close, the other problem could be the accelerator pump circuit in the carburetor, with the choke open have someone step on the gas pedal, there should be a small spray of fuel going directly into the primary side of the carburetor venturi, if there is no fuel spray the acc pump circuit could be clogged or the pump plunger is worn.
Is the problem only when cold or on hot restarts also?
