Ford Repair: starter relay 1995 ford, ford escort sw, starter relay

Question
1995 Ford Escort SW/1.9 cy @ 117K mi.

I just switched the battery into my Escort, which had been sitting for awhile. I started it every 3 weeks or so and now want to drive it. It has a new tranny and the top of the motor rebuilt. New plugs, wires, etc.

The other day it wouldn't start. I hear a clicking sound coming from the middle of the firewall. Past experience tell me the starter relay but I usually find it on the fender wall. I tried to trace it from the battery but there isn't anything there! Can you help? And if that isn't it, what else could it be?

I also have problems with shaking. It is not the motor. The motor/transmission mounts are new. I have read that it was simply the design of these cars and not to worry about it, and partly because they are of "unibody" construction.
I still don't like it!

The guys at the parts stores tell me around $10 for the relay, then another one says $30-$80! No return on electrical parts, so I need to find out. Another guy says it's the ignition module.

I always get more than one opinion. I have learned that "Parts Guys" just want to sell me something I don't need.

I appreciate your help!!!

Answer
The problem was not a relay, but a solenoid directly wired to the battery. The jumping is because the engine is skipping/missing. Replace the solenoid, replace the plugs(do a general tune-up). Then tell me where you are at from there please. The car has sat up so it can use a tune up and fuel filter replacement.
