Ford Repair: 94 Sable rear brake drags, rear struts, truck mechanic

Question
QUESTION: Hi,I bought a 94 Sable 3L 130,000 mi. 4dr.sedan recently and replaced rear struts as necessary but noticed rear brakes have recently been worked on, new pads and calipers, parking brake cables are disconnected, L/R was dragging more than others and only that wheel was covered with brake dust. I thought maybe the backyard installer maybe didn't get something right, I backed of the caliper (turned the piston in) a little and drove the car a little, brakes were great. After a couple hundred miles that wheel is dragging again, smells like burnt brakes, hot to the touch compared to the others. Possible a bad reman caliper? The car sat a few months before I bought it, after the new parts were installed. Possible a collapsed rubber hose? I am not real familiar how the park. brake system works but both cables are disconnected at the calipers. Any thoughts will be appreciated, Thanx, Ron

ANSWER: have this checked out by a reputable garage. good luck

Answer
Ron
Not knowing who i am talking to and their familiarity with the way vehicles work i don't give a lot of info when it comes to safety items.
if you don't believe me as to why read some of the questions i get then put yourself in my place trying to answer them. here is info on adjust park brake from alldata didn't have anything on how it works. caliper or collapsing hose would have been what i checked first, i don't remember on 94 but if it had stationary pins on calipers they would sieze up, but i believe you would have already seen that. is it possible park brake cable is binding inside? i don't know what area your from. also slides will get a small groove in them where pad rides and won't let the pad fully retrieve sometimes and they do make small shims for that. Sorry did not mean to offend you earlier.
         Mark.

  1. Ensure parking brake is released.
  2. Raise and support vehicle.
  3. Tighten adjusting nut against rear parking brake cable adjuster until there is a slight, less than 1.59 mm (1/16 inch) , movement of either parking brake lever at rear caliper. Stroke parking brake control with approximately 445 Newtons (100 lb) pedal effort, then release parking brake control and repeat this step.
  4. Lower vehicle and check operation of parking brake.
