Mitsubishi Repair: Car not firing, altenator, driving car

Question
I have recently purchased a 1992 3000GT SL for $1500. It had not been driven for almost 2 years. It has about 160,000 miles on it. I put a new altenator and battery in it and drove it home. For the first couple of days I couldnt have asked for a better driving car. Then the fuel pump went out. I fixed the problem and drove it for a couple more weeks. Then one morning it would not crank. I could not figure out what was wrong with it, so i called a buddy and he told me to disconnect some kind of security gizmo located in the trunk. I did and the car started. Now the car ran for about another hundred miles, but then just died as i pulled into my driveway. Now it will not fire and the alarm has gone off twice, so i disconnected the battery. Please tell me you know what the problem is.......

Answer
Ric: This it could be one of about 100 things, with those kind of miles, I would have the computer coded to see what it might print out to the problem. You do have the right year for those bad computers, but the fact the car got to 160,000 miles is pretty good.  If the the car will not fire, how about new stark plugs, wires, distribtor cap and rotor, you replaced the battery and altenator after it sat for two years, why not a good tune up. Change the oil, is it an auto? I would replace the transmission fluid and filter too. The computer coding should explain that is causing the alarm to go off. But that might be because you disconned some kind of security gizmo located in the trunk. These little car seems to go and go but you have to be willing to help them. A good tune up with be where I would start. If that does not fix your problem, then I would look to the timing belt, with those kind of miles it could have broken. And you don't know if they changed it at 60000 miles as it should have been. God bless: Linda
