Ford Repair: Gas smell in oil, crank case, dip stick

Question
Hi,I have a 1997 Ford Ranger.I was checking the oil and it had some pasty white film on the dip stick when I wiped it on the rag I smelled it and it smelled like gas....what could that possibly be or mean??

Answer
Hello Melissa, Is the truck running fine ? The white substance on the stick is moisture in the crank case, does not mean there is a issue. To have a little is normal and as far as the smell has it been a while since the oil has been changed? If the truck makes short drives this is normal to a point also. Hope this helps. Thanks Tony
