Ford Repair: 2005 Ford Five Humdred SE, aluminum pan, luck chris

Question
I recently brought my car in for an oil change and my mechanic said that I needed a new drain plug, apprantly the threads got stripped on the origional,so he put one in.  A week later, the drain plug is leaking and I brought it back to him yesterday, and he says that I should replace my oil pan at this point. I have never heard of an oil pan going bad,so my question is:
Can a custom drain plug work for this situation, assuming that the pan is still o.k.?  My mechanic "sealed" the plug, and so far it's holding. He says that the cost to replace the pan is $900.  It involves taking the exhaust system apart to get to the pan,and it's about 5 hours of labor.  Should I get a second opinion?  Thanks.

Answer
hey there. Drain plugs usualy do not get stipped for any reason. the only time i see stripped drain plugs are from ametures doing oil changes. the oil pan can only get damaged by cross threading the plug. IT is an aluminum pan which means very expensive, but when it comes to crossed threads. it can be repaired instead of replacing. Perhaps take it to a good mechanic that can do these kind of repairs, because replacing the oil pan is not necesary. good luck
