Ford Repair: Spark plug covered with oil, valve cover gasket, hello bill

Hi,

I have a 2005 Ford Escape with 58000 on it.  It is a 2.3L I4 engine.
I decided to change the plugs yesterday and found that 1 of the plugs was covered in oil and another had a trace of oil on it. Is this something to be concerned about or is it likely a valve cover gasket? I'm hoping this is not something critical in with the piston.

Hello Bill, If it is the part of the plug where the coil goes on, then it is more than likely a valve cover gasket. If not, like on the tip that screws into the head then it is an internal issue. More info on where the oil was would be helpful. Thanks Tony
