Ford Repair: 2001 windstar, carpet matting, carpet area

my wife has a 2001 windstar /w about 70000 mi on it.  when it gets cold out, 50 or less till spring time 50 or more, it shudders when going into 4th gear or ovedrive from down shifting.  also when at a stop light, it starts to idle funny, and eventually stalls.  any ideas?  also, a cel came up, and suggested a MAF sensor was faulty.  thanks, Tom.

Remove the R/S front interior kick panel and see if the carpet matting is wet under the front carpet area after a good rain. A water leak intrusion in the bulk head area can cause a condition such as this by entering into an electronic module. The water would enter on the right side front kick panel area by your glove box getting the control module wet. Let me know what you find with the floor matting.
