Ford Repair: hesitation, throttle position sensor, mechanic check

Question
I have a 93 ford Escort, 1.9 4 cylinder. when driving on the highway at a steady speed, when I give it more gas, the car hesitates and feels like it's jumping, until I put the gas all the way to the floor, and then it runs smoothly. It only happens when I drive at a steady speed on the highway, not driving on the street. The car starts up and idles fine. I changed the fuel filter, but that did not help. Thanks for the help.

Answer
You gave a fairly descent description. However, what you have noted, could be a faulty transmission. The only real way to diagnose it would be to have a certified mechanic check. At first glance, I jumped on throttle position sensor. Pull the engine codes, if the check engine light is on or has been on at any time recently.
