Ford Repair: gas gauge, gas gauge, ford taurus

I have a 97 ford Taurus.  When I filled it up last time it took more gas than I thought it would because the gas gauge only showed 1/2 empty.  Now the gauge has stayed at full.  It is just starting to move lower since I have gone about 125 miles.

Any ideas?

hey there, there is a pretty good chance that there is a fault with the fuel sending unit. the fuel gauge reading come off that sending unit, im not too sure if you can get the resistor board seperat from the the sending unit, if you can find one it should be pretty cheap. the labour to put that part in will probably run a few hours or so beacuase the fuel tank will have to come out to install. good luck
