Answer
You may find this unhelpful, but it is the best advice I can provide. Rent a car, believe me, I know, I just had to rent one, and hated every minute of it. The dealer, or another garage will need to keep the vehicle for as long as it takes. From what it sounds like, the Taurus is anything but reliable. If I am not mistaken, however, that year required the computer being flashed on a good friend of my own. My advice if the dealer is scratching their head is to go to an automotive electrician. Call any of your local parts stores, they will have a commercial account with one. These guys are word of mouth mechanics, and they keep a full lot. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.
