Ford Repair: starter problem 66 mustang, starter problem, flex plate

The starter is grinding--- i have a 1974 C-4 automatic transmission with a 1980 302 engine my starter is grinding and i have replaced solenoid, flex plate, and tried several starters all with the same result. Any idea what the problem might be??

You may need to shim the starter, depending on the noise. Giving that you have tried several starters, the other likely possibility would be a worn flywheel. I wish that I could be more help, but "grinding" is kind of vague to describe the noise that you hear. However, those are your two possibilities, either way unless the starter is not disengaging as the car is started. If that is the case, then an ignition switch would be the culprit.
