Ford Repair: 1990 Ford F-250 5.8 Liter Oil in the air filter box, ford f 250, piston rings

Question
Hi,

I had an oil change done, and the tech told me that the air filter is drenched in oil. Well I change the filter and the next day it was the same. I was wondering what causes this problem, and also the check engine light is on. Could you please give some directions what can I do to repair this problem I will have to do the repair myself. Thank you

Answer
It was the same because the problem is in the pcv system. One thing is for certain, the PCV is defective. It can either be from excess oil like the air filter, or from lack of servicing. Judging from the year of the truck, you may be looking at excessive blow by coming from the engine. The PCV is suppose to filter the air/gas and insert it into the air cleaner box. As the piston rings wear down over time, you get excessive blow by.
