Ford Repair: E350 7.3 Turbo Diesel, glow plugs, little computer

Question
QUESTION: The little computer my friend let me use states pass/no codes.I can not drive it because it cuts off every 2 minutes or so. I guess I'm going to have to pull the valve covers again and check the glow plugs and this will take a couple of hours along with ripping my hands up again.I have over $26,000 in the van and wondering now if it was worth it because these types of things should not be happening to a Diesel that only has 38,000 on it

ANSWER: Hello Hugh, If it is dying every 2 minutes and no codes, possibly fuel related, like it runs out of fuel? No good answers for you, need to check fuel pressures monitor injectors, cam and crank sensors to get to the root. Thanks Tony

QUESTION: I have ask so many questions on line I can not even remember who just to me to diconnect the ICP sensor and run it. I did that and it stayed running along with the blue smoke and missing a little bit so I'm going to assume that it is the sensor. I wish I knew more about Diesels because I have wasted almost $600 so far and now it looks like I'm going to be ripped off on a sensor $170.00. Thanks

Answer
Hello Hugh, This engine is computer controlled which you need some type of diagnostic equipment to truly work on it, otherwise you are throwing parts at it and that can be expensive. The ICP is injector control pressure, it regulates pressure to the injectors. The engine also needs a min of 500 psi for the icp to function. When you disconnect it, it bypasses per say. One the is to check oil level and make sure the oil is full and not past time to change it, because oil with 4000 miles on it or more tends to aerate causing a no start, no power, miss. Wish I could be more help. Thanks Tony
