Ford Repair: 90 mercury sable axle stud replacement, mercury sable, lug nuts

Question
how can i replace the front axle studs on my 90 sable without removing the axle?

Answer
take the wheel/caliper and rotor off-take a hammer and knock out the old studs now if the new ones will go through you will have to rig a puller by putting washers or something around the stud then installing the nut and tightening until stud pulls through and seats-before you start this keep in mind it takes a lot to pull studs through until seated and you may ruin a nut doing this-we have a tool made for this that will not damage studs or lug nuts-down side is if you don't get stud seated and install wheel then it will work loose and break a stud or stud will turn and you can't get wheel off-it is not expensive to have a shop do this or shouldn't be it runs 31.00 plus parts at our shop.

if studs don't pull through from back of flange you will still have to loosen axle nut and hub bearing to pull forward enough to install.
