Ford Repair: 2001 Mercury Sable Stalls Randomly, 2001 mercury sable, mercury sable

Question
hello i have a 2001 mercury sable. I have a PO118 engine code that comes up even though the engine is normal operating range. this comes up when the car stalls which is daily at stop signes, and lights. The car only stops when in gear at a light. If i keep one foot on the accelerator, and the other on the brake at the light it runs fine. I replaced both coolant sensors, and the cam angle sensor to try to fix the problem and it doesn't make a difference. What else may be causing this. Im going to replace the IAC valve tomarow but don't know for sure if it will fix the problem. its got a 3.0 litre V-6 with a 8th digit vin code of U which means it doesn't have an overhead cam. Any help is Greatly apreciated. Im about to push the car off a hill lol im kidding

Answer
At the very minimum, clean out the IAC and throttle body. You will be blown away at the amount of carbon buildup. I have very detailed instructions on the cleaning process. That should fix the idle problem, and possibly the light. You replaced the correct parts for the code. My guess is that the computer has not been through enough drive cycles to reset. The light and the idle problem are unrelated, chances are. Drive cycles can be tricky to perform. I usually perform them by driving in stop and go traffic. Do this of course after you have cleaned the IAC. I don't believe it needs to be replaces, just cleaned.
