Ford Repair: fuel level sensor, fuel level sensor, fuel gauge

I have a 2006, F-150 in where my fuel gauge quit working, once checked it coded P0463-"fuel level sensor circuit, high input". What does "high input" and "low input" mean and what should I be looking for at this point. It doesn't sound like I have to drop the tank and replace the sensor  itself.?....Thank You...B.

hey there, unfortunatly the sensor is on the sending unit itself that is inside the fuel tank, make sure there is power going to the sensor from the connector going into the tank, if the powers and grounds are ok, then the fuel tank does have to come down, and the fuel level sensor is bolted to the side of the sending unit, and attached to it will be a float, good luck
