Ford Repair: 1996 Ford Mustang Transmission Problem, ford mustang, torque converter

Question
For about a week now, when we're driving, the car will shudder when it reaches 30mph and keeps it up until it reaches about 45 mph. Just today, it started again, then when I stopped, the car died. I've been told that it could be the torque converter. What are your thoughts on this? Any suggestions.

Answer
Is it a 6 or 8 cylinder? It is possible that you have a band slipping in the transmission. Change the transmission filter and gasket. But when you fill it back up with transmission fluid, substitute one of the quarts with Valvoline ATF Stop Leak. I know, you didn't say it was leaking, but that is a great product. It seals and conditions the rubber components inside the tranny. See if that helps. Are you positive that it is the transmission, and not a problem with the engine? Is the check engine light on?
