Ford Repair: Engine vibrating., ford ranger, 1998 ford ranger

Question
I have a 1998 ford ranger v6 3.0 litir 2 wheel drive 87,000 miles. Ran good,
hit a  water puddle and pulled out of it and it died. After it started with a
struggle, but has Horrible loud knocking sound. Put a liittle bit of oil in it and
drove it. The knocking went away when I drove. But the whole truck is
vibrating really bad. And it feels less powerful. Is it bad to drive? Will it go
away? This happened recently 3/4/09. Please lend me some information.

Answer
Is the check engine light on? If so, have the codes read at your local parts store. You got a sensor wet, that's for sure, possibly even the coil. If it is not drivable, start with sensor connections cleaning them and applying dielectric grease. You may need to go through each connection. I would start with the sensors at the lowest point on the motor, and work my way up. The check engine light should shed some light on which sensor got damaged. Try to limit the driving to a minimum, to avoid added stress on the engine.
