Ford Repair: 1994 ford escort driveability problems, driveability problems, butterfly valve

Question
When cold car runs fine. After less than 5 minutes there is almost no power below 2000 rpm. once 2000 is attained it is as if a switch turned on and suddenly the engine is running normally. Once it drops below 2000 rpm once again no power. If in neutral it takes almost thirty seconds when floored to exceed 2000 rpm. This has been a remarkably reliable car for the two years I've owned it. I'm sure this is not a major problem, but no-one seems to have any concrete idea what this could be. HELP!!!!

Answer
No it is not a major problem. Thank you for the good description of symptoms also. You have one of 2 sensors bad, if not both. The IAC and the TPS.  I am sure that the check engine light is on, right? Have the codes read. It is getting harder and harder to find a parts store that will have the OBD-1 Ford reader. It may be just as easy to just but one. Also, both components connect at the throttle body, which is more than likely, full of soot. Buy a can of Air intake and throttle body  cleaner and a cotton T-shirt. This will need to be done with the engine "Not" running of course. Preferably when you replace one or both of the sensors.Open the throttle completely, spraying the cleaner into the throttle body. Pay close attention to the ridge where the butterfly valve closes. Clean with T-shirt. Repeat as necessary. I do this cleaning every other oil change.
