Ford Repair: transmission, taurus 3, default mode

Transmission will not shift in 05 Taurus 3.0.  The motor winds out but will not shift to second.

he bob, it is probably in second gear and not 1st. this is called "limp mode." this is a default mode if the transmission has an internal failure, could either be hydraulic or electrical, this is to prevent any other damage to the transmission, but still lets you run it to get it to a shop.
