Ford Repair: 1994 Ford E150 Gear Shifter, aluminum tube, 1994 ford e150

Mark,  My 1994 Ford E-150 Van gear shifter moves freely and does not go into gear, do you have any suggestions on trouble shooting this?

first look under the dash and find aluminum tube running down beside steering columng from top toward bottom-on the end of the tube will be a bracket with an ear sticking off of it see if a cable is connected to it and if it is tight there are two screws that work loose and they can be tightened back but you need to put loctite on them- if all that looks ok get under truck and see if linkage is connected to transmission the grommet may have broke and cable pops off if so.
if all is connected have your transmission checked.
