Ford Repair: 2000 Ford Ranger leak..., 2000, 2001

Question
My 2000 Ranger XLT has had an intermittent leak that we have been chasing for the better part of 3-4 years now.  Finally for the first time, I've been able to induce a leak when we want it to.  The first visible water was dripping off the headliner about 2 inches to the left (pass. side) of the slider window and 3rd brake light.  I could feel the upper edge of the window on the inside under the headliner and there is definitely water in there as well.
It appears to run down the back corner under the trim and pool in the pass. side floor. The last time it rained, I had standing water in the pass. side floorboards.

We have in the past resealed around the rain gutters over the door, the rear window on that side, and the top edge of the 3rd brake light. This did seem to slow it down somewhat but now we are back to chasing a leak again.

I looked in the seemingly notorious spots for water leaks in Rangers, and all seems dry.  My husband did clean out the drains last year...so they shouldn't be clogged again as I don't do any major driving or any off roading with it.
Does it sound to you like we are on the right path here if we take the 3rd brake light housing off and run a bead of sealant around it then reattach it to the truck?

Answer
Hi Ann,

If it was me repairing the truck, I would replace the third brake light housing with a new unit and double check the rear window set for leaks. If the rear window set leaks, I would have a glass shop pull the rear window and replace the set,as it could be loose.

I hope this helps,
