Ford Repair: Fuel leak (or flood...), best guess, slow leak

Question
Last night after I parked my car, fuel gushed out from the fuel tank. There was no slow leak (no trail, etc) but a sudden gush. I had to have to towed somewhere and they called today to say that my fuel line seal went bad. They tried to sell me a new fuel pump(which I can't afford) and then said they would just replace the seal (which they can't guarantee). They are still charging $200 for labor. Does this seem right? Is it plausible that fixing the seal will fix the problem without replacing the pump? I'm at a bit of a loss here and appreciate any information and advice.
Thanks,
Marie

Answer
Hello Marie, Not really knowing the exacts of the concern I'll try to give you the best guess. It is possible to just to try to repair but not guarantee that it will work because they are trying to modify a part to fix your vehicle. The cost of $200.00 labor is plausable because it is possible that the fuel tank needs to be taken down to access the fuel pump because it is located in the tank. I know it is not the answer you are looking for but its the best I got. Thanks Tony
