Ford Repair: 2002 Ford Explorer no start, batt gage and service engine soon lights with K.O.E.O., throttle position sensor, engine cranks

Question
2002 ford explorer. vehicle has had hard starts since ownership, but service technicians can never "duplicate" it. The vehicle has been fine then yesterday morning it would not start.  The engine cranks but will not start, tried jumping suspecting a weak battery. same results. The fuses are all intact. It has not rained recently, so water intrusion is unlikely. When key is inserted the lights all work and all go off (including the theft light) except for the battery (tried jumping), the check gage, and the service engine soon light. I get no codes on the scan tool, there is no freeze frame event data, all the I/M are ok or n/a. and the MIL is off, which would seem normal as the engine will not start. I can hear the fuel pump and smell fuel. If it were a sensor I assume I would get a code of some sort..what else could this be?  hoping there is something simple I'm overlooking before I have to get it towed to the dealership. thanks!

Answer
a pcm is always a possibility keep that in mind because if it is bad you may not get any indication as far as a code-because it may not know its bad sorta like an alcholic that don't realize they have a problem

with that in mind-if you have fuel because you hear pump and smell then i hope you have injector pulse.

do you have spark pull a wire off of coil hold about 1/4 inch above tower hand at least 5-6 inches above end of wire-have someone turn over engine see if you have spark

if you do and you also have fuel have it taken to a dealer-if not before you go any further get a voltmeter and find your throttle position sensor wires off of throttle body-check i believe orange wire see if you have 5 volts-check black wire see if it is .02 or less and green wire should be around 1 volt if so your pcm is supplying reference voltage and a good ground. follow up and let me know results.
