Ford Repair: tranny, ford aerostar van, ford aerostar

Question
Have a 93 Ford Aerostar van I just recently acquired. I was told the engine is a 4.0 and I replaced the tranny. It doesn't work. The linkage arm was pointing upward on old one, new one points downward. There is a place to plug a wire in on the left side of the tail that wasn't on the old one. Everything bolted-up fine. It will not move in any gear. While looking over everything I found a sticker that says the engine is a 3.0L.Here is my VIN 1FMDA31X2PZB47496. Can you tell me if this VIN is for a 3.0 or 4.0? And if there is anything else you can tell me I would be so thankful. I really need to get this thing going to drive to work. Again, thank you so very much for your time and knowledge.                                                                            A. Ferguson

Answer
according to your vin it is a 4.0 ohv engine-that don't mean someone hasn't changed the engine but to do so they would have had to change a lot of thing including pcm and harness so not likely-if you have or don't have an electrical connection on one and not the other they won't work because the one with the electrical connection is electronic and uses the pcm for shifting there should be a number on your old tranny that can be crossed over for correct one.
