Ford Repair: ENGINE DIES, distributor shaft, torque converter

Question
79 FORD 250(460CU)...ENGINE MISSES, AND DIES WHEN TRAVELING AFTER TAKEN FOOT OFF GAS...SEEMS TO IDLE OK...IT HAS A CLEAR FUEL FILTER WHICH I NOTICE NEVER FILLS UP( IT BARELY HAS QUARTER WAY FILLED UP. I CHANGED FILTER AND PUMP, STILL THE SAME. COULD IT BE TIMING,FUEL, OR TOQUE CONVERTER?

Answer
All of these things can only be answered by yourself, with the exception of the Toque converter. I don't think the torque converter is causing you're problem. Use a timing light to check the ignition timing. If you put a new pump on then you may be looking at a carburetor issue. How do the points look? A worn distributor shaft can cause this sometimes also. I am afraid that you are going to have to do a little more trouble shooting. Let me know what you find out, and I will try and help you from there.
