Ford Repair: EGR valve pressure sensor, clogged catalytic converter, ford taurus

Question
Hi James, I have a 1992 Ford Taurus wagon 3.8 engine. A couple of weeks ago the engine misfired hard and then died. Check engine light had been on for a week or so but had not gotten it checked yet. Found that the EGR valve pressure sensor looked like it had exploded. Melted and even ruined wiring harness connection. I replaced the EGR valve itself and the EGR valve pressure sensor. Along with a new wiring harness. Check engine light went off and all seemed good. Today the check engine light came back on and before I could get it somewhere to have the code checked, the engine again misfired but did not die. When I got it home I looked and again the EGR valve pressure sensor is burnt up. It looks like it just explodes, holes in the lower half and melted plastic all around it. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer
I am surprised that this doesn't happen more often actually. It actually measures exhaust gas so if you do the math, you will understand why it melts. One reason that it expires sooner than expected is a clogged catalytic converter.Check you're catalytic converters to make sure they are not stopped up.
