Ford Repair: 2000 Mercury Sable Wagon, throttle position sensor, mercury sable

Question
My son has a 2000 Mercury Sable Wagon with the Duratec engine. It is idling high, I can take my foot off of the brake and it picks up speed from a stop and gets higher. It is a bit loud due to the loud idle and the check engine light just came on. It has 168000 miles but it drives very smooth, shifts great and otherwise gives no indication of problem. Do you have any suggestions of what it might be?

Answer
Might be the throttle position sensor, idle air control valve,or even a vacuum line.Simply taking it to you're nearest parts store will reveal you're true problem for free. They will give you the codes stored in the computer. If you want reassurance, you can let me know what the codes are and I will confirm you're suspicions.
