Ford Repair: 1984 F-150 problems, carburetor linkage, torque converter

Question
Hey James
I'm currently having 2 issues with my truck.

First, I think my truck is running very rich. When i start it in the morning it runs fine for a few minutes, and then once it warms up,it begins to act like it is flooding. Occasionally it will stall on me and I will have to put the gas pedal to the floor in order for it to restart. I assume that this is a carb issue. Would you recommend a rebuild or is there a minor adjustment I can make? Also the choke never seems to go full open(straight up and down). Is that normal? By the way, I have a 4.9L I6 1 bbl carb.                                                       Secondly, it has recently begun to shake and rattle(knock) when I am in drive. Once I get up to speed it seems to run better. But when I first take off it is really rough. Doesn't seem bad at all in other gears, but very bad in drive. I have been a little rough on the tranny because of the flooding issue. I will put it in neutral at a stop and rev it a little. Then I will go to drive with the rpms still up a bit. Thought it was a clogged cat converter but I had that replaced with a whole new exhaust system.  I'm almost certain the noise is coming from the transmission.
Any thoughts or suggestions on where to start would be a great help.   Thanks for your time!

Answer
Hoping that who installed the exhaust also inspected the mounts, including the motor mounts. While the sound could be coming from the inside of the transmission.Look for a loose torque converter bolt.As far as the flooding issues go,replace the choke first. When installing the new choke, also clean and inspect all of the carburetor linkage. If choke does not fix the problem, install a carburetor.I always replace the intake gasket and allows you to but the intake/carburetor assembly on a bench.
