Ford Repair: head clean up and intake, blown head gasket, acid bath

Hi James, I have a 2000 ford focus 2.0 SOHC. with a blown head gasket. I removed the head I have oil and sludge build up in the lifters thru out the to of the head. How do I go about cleaning this up? Also I look in the intake manifold and see carbon blow by deposits and looks like it need to be cleaned up good also. What should I use to clean this up before I put everything back together? Thanks Mark

It really depends upon how time sensitive you're project is.Personally,I would have the head taken to a machine shop,let's just say so they could mic it and test for cracks.You could ask them to clean it up for you.There is nothing like a good old acid bath.Other than that the only thing that I can think of is a water hose and about 5 or more cans of oven cleaner.
